Retreat FAQs

Can my husband come with me to the retreat?

Sisterhood of Stepmoms events are for any women dating, engaged, or married to a man with children. We have discovered that stepmoms need time alone with other stepmoms. And that they will not share their true feelings if men attend. Therefore, no men are allowed at the retreats.

I can’t afford to attend. Do you have scholarships?

On occasion a stepmom will offer to pay a partial scholarship for another stepmom to attend. However, we never know if or when this will occur. Send an email via the website and we can let you know if something comes available. Understand that SOS has no ministry or church funding the retreats.

Can I bring children to the retreat?

Children are very important to SOS. However, our experience has shown that the crowded conditions and active pace of the day are not conducive to children or babies. In order to limit distractions to other attendees, babies and children will not be allowed in the main session room or workshop rooms. Please begin making childcare arrangements now. This event is a time away for stepmoms.  We appreciate your cooperation.

What does my ticket include?

Your ticket includes:

  • Admittance to the retreat (pre conference, and/or conference — depending on the ticket purchased).
  • Dessert Friday night
  • Lunch and dinner on Saturday.

For those staying at the Cooper it includes breakfast

Please note: Hotel reservations MUST be made separately through the Cooper Hotel at the discounted rate they have provided SOS.  You can book your reservation by calling 800-444-5187 and don’t forget to mention you are attending the Stepmom Retreat with SOS!

I am a vegetarian or have food allergies. Can you accommodate my needs?

We have intentionally picked meals that include fruits and vegetables. However, we cannot guarantee all meals will be free of your particular allergy.  The Cooper hotel tries hard to work with attendees. WE recommend contacting them directly if you have a specific question.

Can I get a refund?

Tickets to the SOS a retreats are not refundable. However, they are transferable. You are responsible to resell the ticket, to collect funds. Please notify our administrator of the name change for the ticket.

If you do not know someone who is interested we try our hardest to help by allowing a post of the resale on our FB event page. Normally the ticket was purchased at a cheaper, early bird price. So there are often stepmoms who are very interested.

Do you have a price for Saturday only?

Our ticket price includes Friday night and all day Saturday. The preconference on Friday afternoon can either be combined with the entire retreat, or purchased separately as a one day event.

I have a handicap, are there accommodations?

The Cooper does not have an elevator; however our event is on the first floor and easily accessible. The Cooper can provide a hotel room on the first floor if requested.

What should I wear?

We suggest you dress comfortably, and highly recommend layers. We cannot control the thermostat in any of the rooms and temperatures can vary greatly in different parts of the building.

Do I have to be in photos?

We take a group photo at every retreat. However, you do not need to participate if you feel uncomfortable. We can NOT control casual pictures, or candid shots taken throughout the weekend by fellow attendees. Those will likely be posted on social media. Therefore, it is your responsibility to step out of the setting if a fellow attendee decides to take a picture.

Can I record the seminar speakers/sessions?

For the privacy and protection of our speakers and attendees who ask questions, no audio or video recordings are allowed at any SOS retreat. This is a firm policy.

How do I find a roommate?

Attendees are allowed to post a roommate request on the FB Dallas event page (not our main SOS page).  We do not assign roommates or become involved in the hotel registration process. If you add a roommate PLEASE notify the Cooper so they have the name.  Posting on the page is also allowed for connecting with other stepmoms for a shuttle, uber, car pool etc.

How do I find a shuttle from the airport?

The Cooper is about 20-30 minutes from the Dallas airports.

Approximately 40-50% of SOS attendees fly in to attend our retreats who are seeking to share a shuttle. We often have local stepmoms who offer to provide a ride from the airport. You may post the need on the event FB page. In addition both Dallas airports (Love Field and DFW) can offer shuttle suggestions.
